NHHJA and Patrice Carman Memorial Scholarship Questions!!

Please note this year there are two different scholarships! All Responses are due by Midnight 12/22/17 to secretary@nhhja.com

NHHJA Scholarship Details Instructions and Scholarship Criteria:

NHHJA is celebrating 40 Years of horsemanship, competition, fun, family, and friendship. Much has changed in the world and in the horse industry in these forty years. Forty years ago the phase "party animal" was coined by Bill Murray on Saturday Night Live. The @ symbol got a its same "at sign", Text Message was defined on ARPA Network (now the internet) and Apple computer was incorporated. Gas cost .65 cents/gal and the US returned the Panama Canal to Panama. Star Wars hit the theater. Seattle Slew won the Triple Crown. Equine Canada was created (USEF type organization). Beezie Madden was 14 and Greg Best was 13. What will 2017 look like in 40 years?

Please write in 500 words or less answering the following: Horses are a unique animal and companion, in that they hold the incredible trait of continually providing education and learning opportunities. Even the most seasoned horseman (or horsewoman) will tell you that they learn something new every day, regardless of how long they have been working in the horse industry. With these thoughts in mind, as NHHJA recognizes the associations 40th anniversary, what lessons have you learned through your NHHJA experience, and how do you think these lessons, and NHHJA, will have impacted you 40 years from now?

Two (2) scholarships are awarded yearly to participating current NHHJA members.

Member may be a high school senior bound for higher education or currently in a college, university or school of higher education. A member can win the scholarship one time. To be judged by an outside committee consisting of educators and horsemen/horsewomen, with two (2) winners and one (1) alternate chosen. Awarded at the annual banquet. Monies are to be distributed from NHHJA directly to the winners' chosen college/university or school of higher education.

Partrice Carman Memorial Scholarship Details

Patrice was a vibrant member of the NHHJA for years. Patrice understood the importance of education and was always naturally mentoring young members of the organization. As a business owner Patrice was always looking to provide excellent customer service and grow her business. She was fully dedicated and committed to her clients and especially the quality of what she delivered, very comparable to the way you approach your ride every time you get in the saddle. Patrice really wanted to be able to support higher education for all young people and believed every one of you has the ability to further yourselves no matter what your situation. Therefore a scholarship has been established in Patrice's name to continue to support her willingness to guide and provide further opportunity as you head into your futures.

Please write a 500 word or less response to this question. A good business lasts a long time. Please provide your ideas of what makes a business or organization (such as NHHJA) last 40+ years.
